Surface Treatments
We manufacture and supply a range of high quality professional commercial and industrial concrete treatment products designed to protect, enhance and seal porous surfaces.
Retarding agents
Retarding agents slow down the hydration of concrete, lengthening the setting time. Retarding agents are particularly valuable during hot weather, enabling the contractor to reduce the accelerating effect that heat has on setting times of concrete.
Applying a retarding agent to the surface of freshly poured concrete produces an effect similar to acid etching, resulting in an attractive decorative exposed aggregate finish. The retarding agent prevents the surface from hardening and allows it to be removed by either high-pressure washing with water or by brushing with a stiff bristle brush.
Surface retarding agents are generally water-based and are sprayed on using low pressure equipment such as a garden sprayer. Using different strengths of the concrete retarding agent and varying the time allowed before spraying off, controls the depth of retardation and the amount of aggregate that is exposed.
Please note - it is essential to carefully apply any concrete retarding agent uniformly across the surface to ensure even exposure of the aggregate.
Concrete sealants
Concrete sealants are designed to inhibit or prevent liquids from being absorbed into the concrete surface. Concrete is a porous material and can easily absorb water and other liquids. Liquids that contain dissolved salts and acids can severely damage the concrete surface.
Our concrete treatment sealers resist chemical attack and water penetration making them ideal for use on brickwork, masonry, concrete walls, floors and driveways.
When water enters concrete and freezes, it expands by approximately nine percent. This expansion can easily crack concrete. Treatment with a good quality concrete sealer can prevent this problem occurring.
